Roger Alford, London School of Economics

Brief biography

Roger Francis Gower Alford graduated from the London School of Economics (LSE) with First Class Honours in the B.Sc.Econ. in June 1952, and joined the LSE teaching staff in October 1952. Retired as Cassel Reader in Economics in October 1992 and is now Reader Emeritus. Seconded to the Bank of England April 1960 to May 1962.

After retirement he was asked by LSE to manage four courses on Banking and Finance for Post-graduate Russian students for which he also taught the Money and Banking sections. These courses were paid for by the Soros Foundation and the UK government Know-How Fund. He then organised and partly taught similar "Gurukul" courses for very promising young Indian businessmen until 1999.
